Holy shitballs!
NYS HESC sent me a letter wondering if I'd be interested in a job vacany: IT Specialist 2, Programming. Webpage building, graphics, assloads of JavaScript/XML/etc. Teaching idiots how to type paragraphs in Word is thankfully not part of the job.

This place is literally down the street from me- I could walk there every day, which definitely helps, what with the fact that I'm not allowed to drive- it's a state job (meaning I'd get crazy benefits and job security out the ass and wouldn't have to work very hard at all- yay bureaucracy), AND it pays DOUBLE my reported gross income for this tax year.

I'm filling out the application right now. PleasepleasepleasePLEASE interview me!!!!

Don't just "please" -- make it happen. Call there and say you have questions about the position and would like to speak to the hiring manager. Ask some good questions, ask if you can send your resume directly to them in addition to HR.

Remember, interviewing is simply a) having a conversation, to b) find out what the organization's problem is, showing c) that you can solve the problem, and d) making sure you illustrate that you'll make (or save) the organization money and saying the magic words: "I want the job."

Steps c and d are obviously saved for a formal first interview, but setting up a good dialogue starts with the first phone call to find out the details.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll get an interview. :)
