Black and Gold Day
The Friday before a big football game is usually Black and Gold Day in the 'Burgh. Before a national championship game, it's an especially celebratory time. Everyone wears their Steeler best to work, and local stores hang up Terrible Towels and blast one of the team's myriad fight songs (like this one or this one).

If the music isn't proof enough, here are some fun pictures illustrating just how cuckoo-bananas we are about our Stillers:

A lovely black and gold Xmas tree. This was posted to a Pittsburgh community a few days back.

This is the drive up to the famed "Steeler House" in Monroeville. Most people put one flag or decal on their cars, and a Terrible Towel in one of their houses' front windows. This guy thinks most people are pusses.

Just like me, twenty years ago, except I was at home; Steelers tickets aren't easy to come by. I love this picture, it was posted on flickr not long ago. Love for the team develops early and never fades, no matter where you go.

Yoi and double yoi! Obama loves the Steelers, too!

Pittsburgh is the heart of Steeler Nation, but the Steelers have fans all over the world- and beyond! These links answer the all-important question: Where is Steeler Nation?

- In the White House

- At the Presidential Inauguration

- In an F-15 over Afghanistan

Don't forget the skating rink at PPG Place:
Go Stillers!

And of course, here's my Steelers spirit for the day:
Black and Gold!

I knew I was forgetting something! I meant to post the skating rink, thank you.

Also, thanks for your cuteness. ^_^

If only people would put this much effort and money into good things that matter, like charity, environment or activism.

Everyone should put more effort toward those things, regardless of their choice of hobby.

At least you know what Terrible Towel proceeds go toward, don't you? (hint)

Hey, at least it's less wasteful than religion.

Touche. Except it is a pretty close supplicant to religion.

Close, but no cigar. Unlike god, sports players exist and do things, and are rewarded with payment. God neither exists, nor does things, but still gets paid, the lazy ass.

And the icon was stolen from someplace, at some time. It amuses me.

Great icon, BTW!

YEAH! I loved the Space station video!

I've been having "Black and Gold" month! I have enough Steeler's shite that I can rotate out every day and not wear the same thing. No one at work has any doubts about what team I'm going for...especially the 49er fans, who are praying to god that Arizona prevents Pittsburgh from being the all time champs of the Super Bowl. They weren't too happy when I informed them that Arizona was about 30 years to late for that one. ^^

So, my plans for Sunday have changed... turns out the Pittsburgh PD will be shutting down traffic in downtown, Oakland, and the South Side around 9 PM. I live in Shadyside, which means getting home from Washington PA would be a nightmare and a half. Who wants to "celebrate" (or mope) for hours in a freaking car? Plus, there's no guarantee there won't be a snowstorm that night and into Monday. The days the weathermen have called for snow lately have been non-events, and the days they call for "dustings," we get several inches.

Of course, my mom is less than pleased with me bailing based on this news. She thinks we should come over anyway, stay overnight at her place, then get up at Asscrack on Monday to get ready for work and fight rush-hour traffic into downtown. In a possible snow storm. Yeah, after partying until who-knows-when the night before?

Blaaargh. I'm sorry I won't be able to visit with my family, but I wish Mom would be more understanding!

Though I'm secretly kinda happy that we'll now get a chance to go to Walnut Street and party if we win!
