Positive Spin: It would be great if the economic slump...

* ...encourages businesses to consider telecommuting and video conferencing in lieu of office buildings and business trips, wherever possible. A four-day work week might also become an attractive option for businesses looking to save money.

* ...leads to the legalization of "vices" that the government can then regulate and tax, thus making them safer and netting the government some much-needed tax revenue. Examples are prostitution and marijuana. This would also have the effect of reducing crime, reducing prison/jail populations, and freeing up law enforcement to go after violent offenders.

* ...persuades our government to lift embargoes, such as the one against Cuba. This would provide new revenue, potentially also some jobs, and lead to better relations with the countries in question.
