Fun With Etymology

Kemet > The ancient Egyptian people's name for their country. It means "Black Land," in reference to the fertile black soil along the Nile.

Khem > Coptic variation of Kemet.

Kimia > Arabic variation of Khem.

al-Kimia > Arabic term for an ancient philosophy/investigation of nature.

Alchemy > English variation of al-Kimia.

Chemistry > One of the eventual progressions of alchemy.

Thus, the "chem" in chemistry refers to ancient Egypt.

That's awesome.
