Ooooh!
Go sign this petition! Just think, the sooner you sign, the sooner I go to Mars and quit pestering you!

Happy Birthday to my mommy BTW ^_^

Sorry, it advocates 'nations' to fund it. Nope, can't do it.

That's your prerogative of course... but I'm hoping that even if "nations" pull for this on divided fronts, Mars will be colonized as a united whole, or will at least assert its independence at some point, when things are stable enough that assistance from Earth is no longer needed. Hey, if 3,000 miles of Atlantic Ocean was enough of a gap for us, then several million miles of space certainly will be, too.

Slight potential. But if any pre-existing governments are involved at all, there's no chance of libertarian (or even anarcho-capitalistic) freedom. What really sucks? To leave the atmosphere you need air 'permissions' from whatever countries you might be going over...

I know, I know... I'm just trying to cling to any shred of optimism I can find these days... ;)

At least that X-Prize thing might realistically open up space travel for private firms. They might lobby for deregulation as far as permissions are concerned... it stands to reason that any firm with enough money to start a space program should also have enough money to nail some congressional balls to the proverbial wall.
