Case of the Mondays
I get to work an hour early most days. Oftentimes, this hour is spent futzing around on the Internet or on some other time-killing activity. Today, it was a bit more productive. First off, I stopped at the Dunkin' Donuts close to work for an iced coffee. From this experience, I learned that the Dunkies down the street from me in downtown Albany doesn't know how to make iced coffee. This, my friends, this was a goddamn iced coffee. And the lady behind the counter was as sweet as could be for 7:45 in the morning- or any time of day, for that matter.

Anyway, what I'm really jazzed about is the hour-long conversation I just had with a coworker. Talking about all kinds of stuff- astronomy vs. astrology, ancient Egypt, Carl Sagan, World War 2, SETI, religion, cold reading, solipsism, evolution, the moon landing "hoax" people (and Buzz Aldrin punching one of them out- w00t!), martial arts, the FBI, pet rats- not exactly in this order, but close. I just love talking to people who are open-minded, well educated, and have more to offer than "Did you see such-and-such show last night?" or the various antics of Paris Hilton et al.

This coworker in question has been my mentor since I've gotten here and, of the members of my team, is the person I'm closest/most comfortable with. He sits in the cube across from mine, which facilitates a lot of that. So, it figures that this is his last week. He hasn't offered a reason for why he's leaving- he says it's personal and he doesn't want to get into it- but it seems plain from conversing with him that whatever the reason is, it isn't crushing him emotionally (unless he's really damn good about hiding such things), and he doesn't seem to be taking a job anywhere else. He may just want some time out of the rat race, who knows? I will be sorry to see him go, because as mentioned, I'm not that well acquainted with the rest of my team. We trade pleasantries and such, and we're friendly, but they're a lot tighter with one another. I kinda feel like I did in high school: on the fringe of a clique that's willing to be civil with me, and I should consider myself fortunate for that much. *shrug*

What about the Paris Hilton has rat-DNA hoax? Or IS IT? ;-)

I want to hang out with you guys soon.

I certainly wouldn't be surprised! Though her skankitude is enough to embarrass the average rat...

And yes, we most definitely should! We've been regrettably antisocial lately and there's no reason for it, other than inertia (the only potential "reason" being the occasional, medicine-induced "Idon'twannabenearpeople!" freakout). We need to return Babylon 5 season 2 to you, and we have a much, much belated birthday present for you!

I don't have the medicine, but I understand that kind of freakout!

THAT's where season 2 went!! I thought it just disappeared into the Cat Dimension. :-D

We need to return that, and we should have you and Dennis watch some of "The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr." which is Bruce Campbell starring in a sci-fi/comedy/western/drama.

IS that out on DVD? Or did I give you that?

Because I only have like 2/3 of the show and if you have all of it you'd best be handing it over, pard.
