Matt Damon? What's next, Ashton Kutcher as Spock?

At the bottom of the article, they suggest Ben Affleck as Spock.

Oh my God, that's the first time I actually typed it out myself. I just threw up in my mouth a little.

I know...I tried to erase that part from memory. I know new actors would have to play the roles but pick talented actors not just insipid 'pretty' boys.

Better yet, don't do a movie based on Kirk and Spock at the Academy. For one thing, Spock was in the 'Fleet for like twenty years before Kirk ever showed up, so the entire idea is apocryphal. For another, you're never going to have any prayer of making that story work for those who remember the characters in their glory years.

If I had my way, there would be no movie. Let the franchise cool off for a few years, then when you make the comeback, come back with something new and original. Focus on the Federation and Romulans trying to hash out a working relationship. Make up a new starship/crew and just have them gallavanting around strange new worlds. No drawn-out wars or Borg or any of that crap, just exploration and optimism for the future; back to basics. Quit exploiting and sullying TOS and TNG, for the love of pete!

ljsim should be the next film. With us in charge, it should be smashing.

I can't RTFA due to filtering here, but seeing the names "Matt Damon" and "Ben Affleck" next to "Kirk" and "Spock" is enough to make my cock retract into my spleen.

Y'know, I don't mind if people want to make scifi that isn't full of optimistic futures- but that's not Star Trek. What old school Trekkies love is that optimism. In the era of the War on Terra, ie. Cold War V.3.09, we need that optimism. TOS was a product of the Cold War, and could never have been made without that environment of politicized fear. We're getting a similary frantic environment, and we need to get our eyes off the dirt at our feet and back up to the stars.

I *have* to play Dr. Burhans.

Yes, our role-play kicks the ass of anything Paramount has put out recently. We would have to be very careful, though, not to let anyone else take creative control and fuck it all up.

I get dibs on playing Nazeh. ;)

Agreed- I am annoyed by the Science/Technology = BAD arc that has pervaded Star Trek lately, and we're all in need of some hope for the future.

Aw, I kind of think Matt Damon would be good as him.... *hides*

Damon would be a great Captain Pike and considering much of Pike's five year mission is unknown, you could do a movie series about him. And you'd get to see Trill! Dax!!!!
